Restoration of Democracy: Pinochet’s military dictatorship came to an end after he decided to hold a referendum in 1988. People voted against Pinochet and then he first lost his political power and later military power. The hope Allende had expressed in his last address was realised: felony, cowardice and treason were finally punished.
